Emely Soriano is a physician who recently completed her fellowship on Thrombosis and Hemostasis in Mexico City, in Unidad Médica de Investigación en Trombosis y Hemostasia, which belongs to the Mexican Social Security Institute. She was born in Dominican Republic, where she concluded her MD training and afterwards a specialty in internal medicine. Then, she moved to Mexico City where she accomplished her 3 year-training in Hematology and began the journey in Hemostasis and Thrombosis, with the mentorship of her professor, Dr. Abraham Majluf. Even though she loved her stay in Mexico, she moved back to Santiago, Dominican Republic, where she began her private practice. She believes there is a great need for younger specialists interested in hemostasis and thrombosis, particularly in her country where she is one of few hematologists with this fellowship. Nowadays, she is fully committed to acquiring more expertise in her field, while helping diagnose and treat all kinds of hematologic diseases. She truly appreciates honesty, empathy and problem solving skills in a teammate, characteristics she tries to embrace herself. She considers that listening, showing respect, and treating patients kindly, are the cornerstone values of a high quality care, all combined with team work, which is vital these days, especially in patients suffering from hematologic diseases who benefit from a multidisciplinary approach. In her spare time, she loves to travel, spend time with her family and friends, connect with nature, enjoy the beach, read and listen to music of any genre. She also enjoys working with nonprofit institutions on various activities throughout her country. In the near future, her main professional goal is to start a hemostasis and thrombosis laboratory, first in her country, where she could encourage the diagnose and treatment of these disorders while gathering data for the developement of future research.
