Dr Theresa Nwagha ( MD, MPH, FMCPath, MSd ), is a Professor of Haematology at the College of Medicine, the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and a Consultant haematologist at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu She has a bias toward haemostasis with research interests in Haemophilia and other bleeding disorders, venous thromboembolism, thrombosis, especially in Oncology, sickle cell disease (SCD), obstetrics, and other medical disorders.
She is a member of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) and has a master’s degree in public health (MPH) and women's health ( M.Sc. in reproductive science). For nearly two decades she has worked on haemophilia, thrombotic and bleeding disorders, especially in obstetrics and Gynaecology and other medical conditions like diabetes, cancer-associated thrombosis and sickle cell disease. She has collaborated in the implementation of hospital-wide VTE risk assessment protocols as well as in writing up guidelines for the management of Haemophilia and other bleeding disorders in Nigeria.
Her experience of participation and leadership of multinational research or training includes being a recipient of ASP VTP and International Haemophilia Treatment Center (IHTC) fellowship, a WFH trainer, being involved in national and international clinical trials, and having a speaking contract with professional bodies in Nigeria, Africa and beyond in the field of coagulation medicine. She is also a member of the ISTH Subcommittee on Communications.
She is well-published in peer-reviewed medical journals and has contributed many chapters to books. She loves teaching and mentoring. She is actively involved in undergraduate, postgraduate, and residency training programs both as a trainer and an examiner and has supervised many postgraduate dissertations. She is chairperson of the UNTH VTE hospital safety zone committee, anticoagulation stewardship committee and VP medical of the Haemophilia Foundation of Nigeria.
