Emily Bucciol is a Master's student in Dr. David Lillicrap's Lab at Queen's University, working to elucidate the effects of estrogen on von Willebrand factor regulation. Von Willebrand factor is a procoagulant plasma protein that fluctuates with changes in female hormones status, such as in pregnancy. This fluctuation is thought to be positively correlated with circulating estrogen levels, however the mechanisms responsible for VWF regulation by estrogen are not well understood. Emily's work aims to uncover this elusive connection between hormones and coagulation, with the ultimate goal of facilitating more informed decision-making in women's healthcare.
