Isabel Bär is a third year PhD student at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. She received her Master of Science in Molecular Medicine at the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena after studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in her Bachelor. Her current research focuses on developing new gene therapy approaches for the bleeding disorder Von Willebrand Disease. CRISPR/Cas9 in itself but also CRISPR/Cas9 base editors seem to be promising treatment tools to facilitate gene editing and improve or cure the disease phenotype. In cooperation with the WINGS consortium (Willebrand in the Netherlands Gene editing strategies) and the WiN cohort (Willebrand in the Netherlands) new idividualized approaches are studied ex vivo using patient-derived endothelial colony forming cells (ECFCs).
