Dr. Rita Selby is a hematologist specializing in thrombosis and hemostasis, and the medical director for two regional reference coagulation laboratories at both the University Health Network and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, two quaternary care academic teaching hospitals fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada. She is an Associate Professor in the departments of Laboratory Medicine & Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Her research interests include coagulation laboratory quality assurance, appropriate utilization of laboratory testing and pragmatic clinical trials in anticoagulation and thromboembolism in trauma. She has served on the scientific committees of national and international laboratory external quality assurance providers. She is currently the co-chair of the Test Review and Utilization Committee (TRUC), an advisory committee to the Laboratories and Diagnostics Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Health. She is the editor/author of the popular coagulation handbook, Bloody easy: Coagulation Simplified (https://www.transfusionontario.org) used for coagulation education across Canada. She has developed and taught the mandatory coagulation laboratory curriculum for the University of Toronto Hematology and Hematopathology residency program trainees since 2009.
