Alessandro Aliotta graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL) in 2016 as an engineer with a Master’s degree in Life Sciences and Technologies, specializing in Molecular Medicine. From 2013 to 2014, he worked as a research assistant in the Blood Products Research Laboratory at the Interregional Blood Transfusion CRS in Epalinges, Switzerland, focusing on blood platelet concentrate storage lesions and the impact of pathogen inactivation procedures. Alessandro also joined (2015-2016) the Translational Biomarker Group at the University Hospitals of Geneva under Prof. JC Sanchez, where he researched blood-circulating microvesicles to identify early toxicity biomarkers in patients with paracetamol-induced liver toxicity. In November 2016, Alessandro began his PhD in the research group of Prof. Alberio, investigating the processes involved in platelet procoagulant activity and their clinical implications. He completed his PhD at the University of Lausanne in May 2021. Currently, Alessandro is a research fellow studying intracellular signaling pathways and the mechanisms underlying the formation of procoagulant COAT platelets.
