Pratima Chowdary is a Professor of Haemophilia and Haemostasis at University College London and Haemophilia Centre Director at the Katharine Dormandy Haemophilia & Thrombosis Centre at the Royal Free Hospital in London, UK. She is Chair of the UK Haemophilia Centre Doctors Organisation and co-director of the UK National Haemophilia Database.
She has been a haematologist for more than 20 years and specialises in managing patients with inherited and acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorders. She received her MBBS and MD from Osmania Medical College. She completed her specialist training in Haemostasis and Thrombosis at University College London Hospital, Great Ormand Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, and University Hospital of Wales.
Dr Chowdaryâs research interests lie in developing strategies for improving the personalised management of haemophilia and clinical outcomes. She is interested in biomarkers for joint disease and novel assays for bleeding diathesis and thrombotic tendencies. Dr Chowdary has served as the chief investigator for many academic and commercial clinical trials, including gene therapy and other novel treatments for severe haemophilia.
She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including textbook chapters and has served as chair of working parties, data safety monitoring boards and trial steering committees. She has also served as a panel member for the National Institute for Health Research and Health Technology Assessment Program in the UK and Norway.
