Assistant Professor
Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (CTH), University Medical Center Mainz, Germany
Carsten Deppermann is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the University Medical Center Mainz in Germany. He obtained his PhD from the University of Würzburg working in Bernhard Nieswandts lab studying the role of platelet granules in thrombosis, hemostasis, stroke and inflammation. He then obtained a DFG research fellowship to perform postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of Paul Kubes in Calgary, Canada where he studied interactions between platelets, macrophages and bacteria using intravital microscopy. In 2019 he returned to Germany as a group leader at the University Medical Center Hamburg. He was appointed Assistant Professor for Systems Interactions in Hemostasis in Mainz in 2021. With their research, he and his team want to understand the complex interplay between platelets and the innate immune system in the liver under (patho)physiologic conditions.
