Rafaela Vostatek, MSc is a PhD-student in the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Group of Prof. Priv. Doz. Cihan Ay at the Department of Medicine I, Clinical Division of Haematology and Haemostaseology at the Medical University of Vienna. Rafaela received her Bachelor of Science in ‘Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology’ from the University of Applied Sciences Krems. After her Bachelor Studies, she continued with her Master Studies in ‘Molecular Biotechnology’ focusing on Drug Discovery at the University of Applied Sciences Vienna. Rafaela completed her master thesis at the Boston Children’s Hospital from February 2020 until December 2020, where she worked at the Group of Leonard Zon, MD and focused on ‘An in vivo chemical genetic screen to identify new regulators of hematopoietic stem cells’. During that time, her interest in hematology research was strengthened.
She started with her PhD-studies in May 2021 and is interested in investigating the role of biological aging and the risk of venous thromboembolism in non-cancer and cancer patients. Rafaela also tries to elucidate the interplay of biological aging, inflammatory and procoagulant changes.
