Dr. Susan Louw (MBBCh (WITS), FCPath (SA), MMed (Wits), PhD (Wits)), is a principal haematologist in the department of Molecular Medicine and Haematology at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). She is in charge of the NHLS Coagulation Laboratory at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH) as well as a Clinical adjunct consultant. She is actively involved in research and development and under-and postgraduate teaching and supervision. She is the secretary-treasurer of the Southern African Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (SASTH), a non-for-profit, educational organisation. Her research interests include the hypercoagulable state in people with HIV infection, the pathogenesis of HIV-related thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and activity testing of the direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs).
