Helen C. Okoye is an Associate Professor of Haematology in the Department of Haematology and Immunology, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria Ituku Ozalla Campus Enugu. She also holds an honorary consultant position in the university teaching hospital. Dr. Okoye is a distinguished Haematologist with a career spanning about 15 years, marked by an unyielding dedication to the advancement of knowledge in the field of haematology. In addition to being industrious, Helen stands out with her high initiative and tailored clinical skills. Her diligence and a keen interest in thrombosis and haemostasis earned her a fellowship award (RtW fellowship) from the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis and the fellowship period was spent in the Haematology/Oncology division of UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina, further solidifying her expertise in laboratory, clinical and research in haemostasis. She is currently a member of the World Thrombosis Day Steering Committee.
Dr. Okoye shares her passion through training undergraduate and graduate students, as well as clinical staff within the domain of haematology. She expresses her inquisitiveness by spearheading research, disseminating the results, and teaching her students. She has over 70 peer-reviewed academic articles for different journals internationally and locally which have been published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Okoye’s areas of clinical and research interest include thrombosis, haemostasis, haemoglobinopathies, and oncology. Helen also has an interest in women’s health and has an MSc in Women’s Health and Reproductive Science. She effectively co-ordinates her research works with her clinical duties involving patient care and management and aims to be an outstanding professional, contributing her quota to humanity and making an impact in the learning and practice of haematology and medicine at large.
Helen is happily married with four children.
