Rita Carlotta Santoro has been the Director of the Thrombosis and Hemostasis Unit and Regional Reference Center for Hemorrhagic and Thrombotic Diseases, Azienda Ospedaliera Pugliese-Ciaccio (AOPC), now called Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Renato Dulbecco (AOURD), Catanzaro, Italy, since 2010.
She graduated with a degree in Medicine in 1982 in Rome (Italy) and obtained a specialty in Clinical and Laboratory Hematology in 1985 at the University
of Rome and a specialty in Oncology in 1988 at the University of Naples. In 1982, she began working at the Hematology Division of the AOPC as a volunteer doctor, and in 1990, she was employed as a clinician at the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center of the same hospital. She was a contract Professor of Hematology at the University of Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro from 2005 to 2010. She is a member of SIE (Italian Society of Hematology), AICE (Italian Association of Hemophilia Centers), and SISET (Italian Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis).
She currently is Presidente of AICE and also a Co-Chair of the AICE Working Group for Quality in Laboratories, a member of the AICE Guidelines
Commission, and a member of the SISET Expert in Hemostasis and Thrombosis Commission. She is also involved in clinical and laboratory aspects of
research on the congenital and acquired alteration of hemostasis and is the author of 106 full papers and two books.
