PhD, Senior Research Project Leader
Synapse Research Institute
Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands
Dana was born in Belgium and studied Biomedical Sciences at the KU Leuven. She obtained her PhD in 2010, with a research topic on HIV inhibitors targeting the early stages of infection. She continued with a 3-year post-doc at the same university, specialising in the same field, studying the mechanisms of action and development of resistance of HIV inhibitors. On joining the Synapse Research Institute in Maastricht in 2013, she left her native Belgium (and HIV) behind to focus on thrombin generation. Her first project concerned the optimisation and clinical validation of a method for measuring thrombin in whole blood. She is now a project leader, involved in the development of new tests relating to platelet function, plasmin generation, fibrin degradation products and von Willebrand factor.
