Dr Nagaharu Tsukiji (PhD) is a Senior Assistant Professor/Lecturer at University of Yamanashi (Japan). He received his PhD in Graduate School of Life Sciences of Tohoku University (Japan). He has research interests in the pathophysiological roles of platelets including not only thrombosis/hemostasis but various inflammatory diseases and embryonic development with especially focusing on C-type lectin-like receptor-2 (CLEC-2), a platelet activating receptor. His group previously reported the essential role of platelets in the fetal lung development depending on CLEC-2/PDPN signaling, and recently reported that hemin is an endogenous ligand for CLEC-2 and GPVI and the hemin-CLEC-2/PVI interaction induces macrophage extracellular traps, which exacerbates acute kidney injury. Recently he has been focusing on the role of platelets for iron dynamics and metabolism.
