Prof. Virginie SIGURET heads the Hematology Laboratory at Lariboisière University hospital (Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, France) and teaches hematology at Université Paris Cité. For the past twenty years, within INSERM UMR-S-1140 "Innovative therapeutics in haemostasis", she has been working to better characterize the pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) profiles of anticoagulant/antiplatelet agents in special populations (the very elderly, renal failure patients, etc.) at high risk of cerebrovascular disease. In this way, her group has specifically evaluated the influence of individual clinical and therapeutic factors, including pharmacogenetic factors, on the variability of PK/PD response to these drugs, thus helping to develop personalized medicine and minimize the iatrogenicity of antithrombotic drugs. The experience acquired in hemostasis, PK/PD modeling, thrombinography and fibrinography with traditional anticoagulants (heparin derivatives, vitamin K antagonists) and direct oral anticoagulants, is an asset for conducting further in vitro and phase IV clinical trials evaluating new anticoagulants (targeting the contact phase), particularly in the high-risk populations.
