Walter Ageno is Professor of Medicine at the University of Insubria in Varese, Italy and at the University of Italian Switzerland. He is Director of Internal Medicine at the Bellinzona Hospital, Switzerland.

Dr. Ageno was chairman of the Italian Society of Hemostasis and Thrombosis and of the Scientific Subcommittee Board of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. He is associate editor for the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and Internal and Emergency Medicine. His research interests include the prevention of treatment of thromboembolic diseases and the development of anticoagulant drugs.
