Takayuki Iwaki is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Hamamatsu University School of Medicine.
As an obstetrician/gynecologist, his analysis of cases of major bleeding during pregnancy led him to devote himself to the world of thrombostasis research. From 2000-2008, he worked with Dr. Castellino at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, where he learned how to analyze the role of coagulation and fibrinolysis factors in the pathophysiology of coagulation and fibrinolysis using knockout mice.
After returning to Japan, he and Dr. Urano discovered two cases of PAI-1 deficiency.
Currently, as an Associate Professor of Pharmacology, he continues to research new methods to detect PAI-1 deficiency and to develop PAI-1 inhibitors based on mutant PAI-1 motifs.
