Dr. Magdalena Lewandowska is an adult classical hematologist at the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center (IHTC) one of the largest federally recognized hemophilia treatment centers in the United States. She has a special interest in hemostasis, focusing on women's health as well as rare bleeding disorders. Dr. Lewandowska serves on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Council (MASAC), the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) gene therapy panel, as well as the WFH living guidelines governance committee.
Dr. Lewandowska takes care of a large Amish population affected with bleeding disorders, participating in home visits, multidisciplinary comprehensive visits, and outreach clinics. She has helped develop an investigator-initiated study protocol and currently serve as co-PI on a trial evaluating the use of metformin in PAI-1 deficient patients who are at increased risk of myocardial fibrosis.
In 2020, Dr. Lewandowska helped develop the adult counterpart to pre-existing adolescent specialty clinic for persons with the potential to menstruate at IHTC. She also serves as the physician lead of the Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Program at the IHTC.
She has helped develop educational content for NBDF (formerly NHF) on the Plain (Amish) Community, including virtual webinars focusing on rare bleeding disorders as well as a health equity, diversity, and inclusion language guide document.
