Timea Szanto, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Experimental Internal Medicine at the Coagulation Disorders Unit at the Helsinki University Central Hospital, Finland. Dr Szanto holds specialty training in both Internal Medicine and Clinical Chemistry from the Helsinki University. She participated to the laboratory and later clinical functions of the Coagulation Disorders Unit in Helsinki. She obtained a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Debrecen, Hungary and a PhD in Biochemistry at the KU Leuven University, Belgium focusing on von Willebrand factor and von Willebrand disease. She is actively engaged in different scientific projects within the research area of coagulation disorders, with focuses on the complex clinical and laboratory evaluation of patients with both inherited bleeding (such as Von Willebrand disease, hemophilia and hypo/dysfibrinogenemia), and thrombotic disorders
