Professor Ross Baker is a practising consultant haematologist and clinical researcher who serves as Chairman of the Perth Blood Institute, Director of the Haemophilia Treatment Centre and senior clinical Haematologist at Hollywood Hospital, and Director of the WA Centre for Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Murdoch University.
As a Principal Investigator in over 135 large international phase 1 to III clinical trials, Professor Baker has significantly influenced the field of haematology. His research on venous thrombosis, thrombocytopenia, Von Willebrand disease, haemophilia, and blood cancers has led to a change in practice, demonstrating his significant impact on science and patient clinical care.
Professor Baker's contributions to the field of haematology are widely recognized and respected. He has authored over 151 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals with high impact factors (personal H-index 43) and is a regularly invited speaker at international and national medical meetings, a testament to his leadership in the medical community.
Currently, he is Chair of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) Von Willebrand Subcommittee, expert advisor on the Venous Thrombo-embolism Committee of the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce, Associate editor of Blood, the journal of the American Society of Hematology, Councillor of the Asian Pacific Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society, and member of the Australian Haemophilia Centre Directors Organisation. He co-chairs the Regional Training Scheme Program of the ISTH with Malaysia.
His current science research interests include microRNA control of coagulation factors, platelet receptor function, and ADAMTS 13 testing and regulation.
