Jim Fredenburgh PhD is a Research Associate at McMaster University. Dr Fredenburgh received his PhD from Queen's University in Canada under the supervision of Dr. Michael Nesheim, where he studied mechanisms of plasminogen activation. He currently works with Dr. Jeffrey Weitz studying the biochemistry of coagulation and fibrinolysis. Proteins of interest include thrombin, plasmin, fibrinogen, factor XII, factor XI, and histidine-rich glycoprotein, and the effects of cofactors polyphosphate and zinc. Research includes studies of licensed and emerging anticoagulants, stimulation of coagulation by artificial devices, and enzyme regulation by cofactors and inhibitors. Methods of study include enzyme kinetics and inhibition, fluorescence spectroscopy, surface plasmon resonance, recombinant protein expression, clotting in vitro, and animal thrombosis models.
