Background: The first case of Hemophilia in Mongolia was diagnosed in 1956, and the registration process commenced in 1992, though due to low number of patients who have been suffering from hemophilia or due to other reasons, up until now the registration to care and to treatment is still lacking in some part.

Aims: We examined the prevalence and distribution of blood clotting disorders in Mongolia based on total registered 170 cases.

Methods: By utilizing the descriptive study, we attempted to layout the epidemiological overview of the Hemophilia in Mongolia.

Results: Among the registered individuals, 68% were diagnosed with hemophilia A, 28% with hemophilia B, and 4% with Willebrand disease (Table 1). The prevalence of blood clotting disorders in Ulaanbaatar was 66%, and 34% were in rural areas. Currently, 86% of people with hemophilia A, 58% of people with hemophilia B on the registry are taking regular coagulation factor treatment. The use of preventive doses varies depending on the severity of disorders (Table 2). In order to compensate for the missing factor, starting from whole blood transfusion, factors VIII and IX extracted from plasma and cryoprecipitate, recombinant FVIII and IX factors are used for treatment, and an average of 3000-4000 IU injections are used for per person per month. The usage of regular prophylactic doses of coagulation factors has increased since 2012.

Conclusion(s): According to researchers, the average population growth in the world is 1.13%, whereas 1.6% in Mongolia. With the population growth, the number of the patients who are suffering from Coagulation Disorders are increasing in Mongolia. Given the improvement in treatment for the disease, almost all the patients are still unable to receive appropriate amount of dosage that they should be taking, due to limited access to the sufficient amount of supply that we have all throughout the country.
