Background: Severe infections during pregnancy are a key risk factor for VTE during hospitalization.

Aims: The aims of this study were to study which were the main infections, the clinical background of the patients and the impact in the risk of VTE.

Methods: In this interventional study, patients were classified as low- or high-risk according to the VTE risk score (Clinics Hospital risk score). High-risk patients (score ≥ 3) were scheduled for pharmacological Thromboprophylaxis (TPX)(Table 1). Interaction analysis of the main risk factors was performed using Poisson regression with robust variance to estimate the prevalence ratio.

Results: 352 evaluations were performed in 260 patients.Period of study:dec 2014- jun 2019. The patients characteristics: age 27.92 (15-44), BMI 28.27 (15.62-53.9). The main infections were; pyelonephritis 140(39.7%), chorioamnionitis 92(26.1%), pneumonia 41(11.6%), endomyometritis 26(7.3%), abdominal wall infection (post c-section) 15 (4.2%), sepsis 25 (7.1%). The analysis of prevalence ratio between infections and the main risk factors about twice the risk of VTE (Table 2). No patients died of thrombosis. One patient with chorioamnionitis had VTE and sepsis.

Conclusion(s): pyelonephritis were the most frequent infection and patients with sepsis had a high risk of VTE at the moment of hospitalization. The prevalence risk for VTE was high and similar in all the main type of infections.
