PB0711 - Quality of life in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia and home administration of romiplostim: experience in a single center

Background: The clinical manifestations and different treatments that patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) receive have an impact on their quality of life (QoL). The evaluation of the impact of treatments on patients' QoL is a challenge due to the lack of validated scales. In adults with ITP, the only questionnaire available to date is the ITP Patient Assessment Questionnaire (ITP-PAQ). However, there are no studies evaluating the QoL of patients using home versus hospital administration of Romiplostim.

Aims: To evaluate the impact on the QoL of patients diagnosed with ITP with home administration of Romiplostim.

Methods: A descriptive, prospective, single-center study of patients with ITP under treatment with Romiplostim. An adapted questionnaire was used to analyze the QoL, in patients who switched to home-administration. This questionnaire evaluated the social, occupational, physical, psychological and emotional spheres and overall QoL (15 items).

Results: 34 patients, 41.17% were administered at home, 29.41% at the health-center and 29.41% at hospital. Overall mean age was 54.94 years-old (similar at home-administration group, 53.86). 71.43% were women at home-administration group. In social and occupational sphere, 92.8% responded that their disease does not prevent them from carrying out their activities. Within the psychological and emotional sphere, 14.2% were almost not worried at all, 64.28% were somewhat worried about their disease. In physical sphere, 35.71% of the patients had no negative impact the home-administration of Romiplostim (64.28% had little or almost no impact). About overall QoL, 100% of the patients had a significant improvement in their QoL after home-administration and were very satisfied with the change. The most valued aspects of the patients were greater independence, comfort, significant time savings, and less feeling of illness.

Conclusion(s): The home administration of Romiplostim significantly improves the QoL of patients with ITP. It is necessary to perform a correct evaluation of the QoL with validated scales.
