PB0720 - Intermittent low-dose prednisone maintenance efficacy in primary immune thrombocytopenia: a single center retrospective

Background: Primary immune thrombocytopenia is a common hemorrhagic disease that is often associated with bleeding risk and fatigue. Corticosteroids are currently an effective first-line treatment with good short-term efficacy, but some patients show hormone dependence.

Aims: we tried to explore smaller dosed of glucocorticoid, intermittent low-dose prednisone oral maintenance therapy.

Methods: This retrospective analysis was setting assessed 15 patients with ITP who responded to high-dose glucocorticoid from January 1, 2018 to April 30, 2023, and all were received intermittent low-dose prednisone oral maintenance treatment: (a) Prednisone 20mg qw; (b) Prednisone 15mg biw; (c) Prednisone 20mg biw; (d) Prednisone 25mg biw; (e) Prednisone 30mg biw.

Results: The duration of intermittent low-dose prednisone maintenance treatment ranged from 0.3 to 40.5 months, with a median maintenance treatment time of 7.5 months and an ORR of 86.7%. Among the patients who persisted in treatment, the sustained response rate (SR) at 6 months was 88.9% (8/9).

Conclusion(s): Intermittent low-dose prednisone maintenance therapy may achieve good long-term efficacy in ITP, while being economical and with minimal side effects.
